Quotes from those who've gone to past WYDs:
Julissa Sauzameda:
"Sharing that same faith with another half million people, not worrying about the
language, was like Pentecost, when everyone understood what the Apostles were
saying in different tongues after they had received the Holy Spirit, because it
doesn't matter what language the Mass is given, we all understand what is
happening and who really is in the Eucharist: Jesus Christ."
Kate Records:
"When I heard about World Youth Day and how much it cost to go, I thought there
was no way I could pay for it. And then I remembered that it was a pilgrimage,
which required sacrifices that started WAY before I ever stepped on an airplane.
By putting a sign on my steering wheel reminding me not to spend money
needlessly, participating in fund raisers, constantly telling people how excited
I was to see the pope, and through the generosity of those people I told, I only
ended up paying about $1,500 of the $3,200 by the time all was said and done.
The sacrifices you make to participate in WYD are more than repaid in the end."
Meredith O'Halloran:
"World Youth Day was the summer before my first year of college and I thought it
would be an amazing experience for me to go strengthen my faith before I went out
on my own. But money was a concern for me so I sent out letters to family and friends
explaining what it was, why I wanted to go and askng for a small donation or even a
prayer just to help me through my journey. I got an amazing response from everyone
and had my trip paid for, which I never imagined would have happened."
