A Special Letter to all Priests
‘We thank God for each and every one of you’
The following was submitted by the Aaron and Denise Wheaton family of Lewis.
As we begin 2010 during this “Year for Priests,” my family and I thank God with all our hearts for the many holy priests who have come into our lives, become our friends, blessed us and ministered to each of us over the years. There is absolutely no way for us to name only one particular priest as being that special priest, because each and every priest, each and every one of you that we have ever met has been an inspiration and awesome blessing to us. We thank God for each and every one of you and pray for God’s most abundant blessings, love and peace, to be upon you.
YOU were the priest who baptized us. YOU baptized our children.
YOU healed our hearts and souls in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
YOU strengthened us in our daily journey with the Lord and with others by offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and offering us Jesus in the most holy Eucharist. Over the years, you have done this for our children as well.
YOU provided Eucharistic Adoration so that we might come to know, love and serve the Lord with all our hearts and be able to spend some quiet time with him. YOU gave us the opportunity to adore our Awesome God!
YOU offered Masses for Life.
YOU stood with us at our annual Life Chain and prayed with us for the end to abortion.
YOU walked and prayed with us at the March for Life.
YOU offered Masses on First Friday and First Saturday.
YOU shared a prayer card and gave a homily with a special message that especially touched our hearts. YOU taught us the truth.
YOU prepared us for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. YOU married us.
YOU confirmed us; you confirmed our children.
YOU baptized my husband, welcomed him into the Catholic faith and also welcomed him each time he comes to Holy Mass.
YOU came to help us at a moment’s notice when we called for you and for your powerful prayers, intercession and support.
YOU anointed our dying child.
YOU anointed another child of ours who was in a terrible accident.
YOU came when we lost children to miscarriage.
YOU anointed sick children of our dear friends.
YOU anointed my mother many times over the years as she continues her battle with cancer and you strengthened her in her journey and with the Lord through your Masses and prayers for her.
YOU brought Jesus, the Light of the World, to our homebound grandmother, brightened her day by your visits with her, prayed with her, heard her confession, and anointed her.
YOU offered funeral Masses for our son, father, grandparents and loved ones and gave each of them a beautiful farewell.
YOU blessed another grandmother who was dying, even though she wasn’t Catholic.
YOU shared yourself and about yourself with us so that we may be your family away from your own family and be a source of love, support and encouragement for you as well.
YOU offered your prayers, love and support for our children and encouraged them in their daily walk with the Lord.
YOU especially encouraged our children as they tried their best in offering their time and talent in various parish ministries.
YOU came to our home, visited with us and joined us for dinner.
YOU played with our children, joked with them, snow skied, played ping pong, visited the frog pond and even rode four-wheelers with them.
YOU came to the harvest fields, blessed our family, our harvest crew, our harvest and took a combine ride.
YOU blessed religious articles for us so that we might share the love of our Catholic faith with family and friends and those friends we are yet to meet so that we might be an encouragement as we all journey with the Lord.
YOU sat with us in our pew and prayed your Rosary with us before Mass allowing our children to sit by you and hold your Rosary.
YOU lit a votive candle, prayed your Rosary before Mass and also as you walked around town. YOU prayed your Daily Office before our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, made the Stations of the Cross, spent time in Eucharistic Adoration – all in quiet, all as a silent witness of your love for our Lord truly present to us in the Most Holy Eucharist and in your love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother and to the beauty of our Catholic faith.
YOU blessed our Mary’s Garden, prayed and sang songs of honor and love to Our Blessed Mother with us.
YOU planted a tree with us.
YOU blessed and consecrated our family and home to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
YOU took our son on a vocation journey.
YOU sat and visited with us.
YOU smiled and shook our hand and the hands of our children
YOU blessed our children from the time they were infants each and every time they came forward with us at Holy Communion.
YOU were especially patient, supportive and loving when there was much noise from the back pew.
You emailed us an encouraging story, prayer or poem.
YOU sent us a note or Christmas card.
YOU blessed and strengthened our hearts, our family, our parish, our diocese and our world when you prayed your daily Rosary and honored our Blessed Mother in your homilies.
YOU offered special blessings and Masses for us on our birthdays and wedding anniversaries.
YOU offered Masses for our deceased loved ones.
This is only a touch of all the many blessings and kindnesses YOU have shown to us. Our list is endless.
YOU -- yes, YOU, Father – have abundantly blessed us by your love and kindness to us and by offering your “yes” to God and sacrificing your family, your home and your own plans in life so that you might bring Jesus to us!
We are so very, very, very blessed to know you and have you as our friends and holy priests. We are so very thankful to you and all you do for us. May God abundantly bless you today and always and especially during this, the “Year for Priests.”
