USCCB Committee on Divine Worship Newsletter March-April 2011

From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General & Moderator of Curia:

Wichita Chapter AGO plans to compile a list of organs and organists from across the state as a Sesquicentennial Project - Sunflower Organ Initiative!   The attached form has been developed to collect information.

The overall goal of the Sunflower Organ Initiative is to strengthen chapters and reach out to unaffiliated organists around the state.  With fewer chapters in Kansas now and remaining chapters thinning in numbers and member ages increasing, new approaches are vital.  They intend the Initiative to be helpful, now and in the future.

They request that you fill out the attached form for yourself and your church; please also forward it to any organists you know who aren't presently members of AGO.

Please note that while there is a June 15th deadline, they will take information past that date.

From Fr. Bernard Felix, Chair, Presbyteral Council:

Click here to view the Presbyteral Council Minutes from May 17, 2011.

Prenuptial Document: Sister Janice took the revisions suggested at the previous Council meeting and presented us a revised form.  The revised draft of Prenuptial Document will be presented to Priests at their deanery meeting for input and comments.

Bishop John presented the Council the results of Pastor Consultation on Confirmation and gave us his insight on Internal Control Review at Parishes with New Pastors.

From Fr. Charles Mazouch, Retirement Board:

Retirement Board has raised the retirement funds for all retired by $50 a month.  The total amount starting with the check in July will be $1,950.00 a month.

From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:

A Note from the Tribunal:

This is to let you know the Review Court in Kansas City is implementing some changes in their review procedure that may prolong the time before an annulment case is completed.  Previously, if a petitioner had (for example) two formal cases in process, both formal cases were reviewed by the Kansas City Court at the same review session.   From now on, however, if a petitioner has more than one formal case in process, Kansas City will review the case of the earliest marriage at one review session and will hold the second formal case to be reviewed at the next scheduled review session.  Currently there are four review sessions scheduled each calendar year.  The two remaining scheduled review sessions in 2011 are August 29 and November 14.

Prenuptial Documents:  I will be out of the office quite a few days; therefore, I offer a friendly reminder to submit prenuptial documents several weeks prior to the wedding date to be sure they can be signed and returned to you in a timely fashion before the wedding date.  Remember, too, that if the Catholic party lives in another diocese and a dispensation or permission is needed, I will need to send the documents to the Chancery office of the Catholic party to grant the dispensation/permission.  This mailing of documents between Chancery offices can take several days to a week to get accomplished.

Whenever a priest from another diocese outside of Kansas is coming to your parish to witness a marriage, please secure some kind of “letter of good standing” or testimonial about the priest’s fitness to minister and include this with the prenuptial documents so that we can have that letter on file here at the Chancery office.

Protecting God’s Children:

I am still in need of a DRE Report (informing me of the numbers of students and an affidavit by the DRE and Pastor the Safe Environment lessons were taught (or not taught) from a number of parishes: Ashland, Fowler, Leoti, Ness City, Plains, and Satanta.

From Becky Hessman, Coordinator of Vocations:

Vocation Views are weekly vocation thoughts for parish bulletins which are now available in the Bulletin Corner.

From Dave Myers, Southwest Kansas Register:

Please consider notifying the Register if you come across families or individuals who would make for an interesting feature story.  These stories would be used for the “People of the Diocese of Dodge City” feature. I’m looking for immigrant families, as well as families who have been in the area for generations.  I’m also looking for World War II veterans, both men and women.  Perhaps you know of a child or youth group that would make for an interesting story.
