CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
May 2013 --- Vol. XI, No. 5
From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General & Moderator of Curia:
► June Priests’ Retreat
Retreat will be June 2-6 at the Spiritual Life Center and the retreat director will be Fr. Simeon Gallagher. The schedule for the retreat is available by clicking here.
From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:
► Letters of Suitability and Celebrets:
Priests and Deacons, a reminder that if you plan to travel to another diocese and minister in any way, most Dioceses require that a letter of suitability be sent ahead of time. So, if you know you will be traveling, please let me know a few weeks in advance with the dates and manner in which you may be ministering so that we can get a suitability letter sent. With a few weeks’ notice, I can also prepare a celebret card for you to carry. However, the celebret usually is no longer sufficient by itself as a testimony of good standing. Rather, the suitability letter is what is now required by most Dioceses.
The same requirement is made if you know of any priest or deacon coming to your parish from another diocese. We need to receive a letter of suitability from the priest or deacon’s bishop (or delegate), or if a religious a letter of suitability from the appropriate superior (or delegate). Suitability forms may be found on our website: http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor
► A reminder as parishes plan for mission trips, summer vacation bible school sessions or any other activities that involve youth and adults: all adults must be fully compliant (completed background check and has attended a Protecting God’s Children awareness session) prior to assisting with the youth activity.
From Fr. Floyd McKinney, Chair, Presbyteral Council:

► The Stewardship conference is the event to attend in 2013. The stewardship office is eagerly anticipating the keynote address from Vatican Correspondent John Allen Jr. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the global Catholic Church and the possible directions it is going. See a short lecture by John below.
John Allen Jr., Vatican reporter will be at the 2013 stewardship conference. John has many years of experience interviewing Vatican officials as well Popes. There has be no better time to attend the Stewardship conference than this year. Below is a video to whet your appetite.

►Coverage during June Priest Retreat
This year I will not be making my retreat in June at the Spiritual Life Center. However, I do plan to be in the Diocese; so if I can help with covering funerals (and perhaps even emergencies) in your parish—so that you can be free—please keep that in mind.

Of course, there are weekends into the Fall available as well.
From Steven Polley, Office of Youth Ministry and Religious Formation:
As we our catechetical programs for the year reach and end and as we set our sights on the summer months I would ask that you assist the Youth Office in promoting two things.
1) The two summer camps set for June 3 – 6 for all current 5th and 6th graders and June 17 – 20 for all current 7th and 8th graders. These four days of camp truly do help shape and form our young people in the faith, so any help in inviting and encouraging these youth to attend is greatly appreciated.
2) Over the past year the TEC movement in the diocese has struggled, since we were forced to cancel both the November and March TEC’s. Thus our focus is on this summer with one TEC scheduled for July 6 – 8 in Garden City and a second TEC scheduled for August 3 – 5 in Pratt.
TEC is designed for Juniors and Seniors in high school, so for the summer months we can look to all current sophomores – seniors and even young adults to be part of the TEC experience. Of the many ministries stemming from the Youth Office, TEC is the one that leads participants to a deeper understanding of the Paschal Mystery and living the Paschal Mystery in our daily lives. As they grow in age and maturity, this encounter with Christ helps them make many crucial decisions during these remaining years of high school and preparation for college.
I thank you for all you continue to do, and I thank you for helping promote both our camping ministry and TEC ministry.

Fr. Chuck politely requests no gifts. Please reply by May 20, 2013 to the parish office, 620-564-2534 if you plan to attend.

► A.C.T.S. Retreat
The ACTS Retreat (an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service) is a parish-based, lay-led retreat modeled on the Cursillo. It began in the San Antonio Archdiocese and has spread to other dioceses. Msgr. Waldo of the Amarillo Diocese realized that their diocese was too small for ACTS to be a parish-based retreat, so he proposed revisions to create a more diocesan-based retreat.
Some parishioners from Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend and from the Cathedral have traveled to Amarillo to make the retreat with a vision of possibly growing the ACTS retreat in the Diocese of Dodge City.
A first retreat in the Diocese could be either a men’s retreat or a women’s retreat. The team for the retreat would come from either San Antonio or Amarillo. As more people experience the retreat, eventually there might be the possibility that we could be able to staff the retreat.
