CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY

|Sunday, October 21, 2018, is the date for the Diocesan Matrimony Anniversary celebration ~ Mass at 3 PM, dinner following
Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3231 North 14th Street, Dodge City. Bishop John B. Brungardt invites couples throughout the diocese celebrating their 5th, 10th, 25th, 40th, 50th and more years of matrimony in 2018. |Catholics throughout the US are asked to help those devastated by Hurricane Florence and any other natural disasters that might occur the rest of the year by donating to Catholic Charities USA: https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/. The Diocese is making a $7,000 contribution. Bishop Brungardt asks parishes and individual parishioners to donate what they can. Bishop asks that we hold all suffering from natural disasters and other tragedies in our prayers. Needs beyond the US such as the recent tsunami in Indonesia can be addressed by donating to Catholic Relief Services: https://www.crs.org/ .|

|Official Catholic Directory You will recall in late 2017 and early 2018 each parish was required to make their own updates of personnel and sacramental data. The following are a couple of paragraphs from an email I received this past week regarding future updating: One of this year’s most important changes is that ALL entities listed in the Catholic Directory will be contacted by us via email rather than direct mail. An email from the Catholic Directory to each such entity announcing the opening of www.ocdedits.com for updating will be sent on October 9, 2018. The email will be sent to each entity’s OCD Contact email as provided during last year’s updating cycle. Please note that the email will contain clear instructions for accessing the online system and your entities will not need to remember their user ID’s and passwords from last year. Please note, we will not be able to accept parish and institution updates on paper or via electronic means other than through www.ocdedits.com. So, pastors, if you receive an email from Official Catholic Directory, DO NOT DELETE IT as it will have important information for how you provide updates for your parish’s listing in the directory.|
|Sacramental Certificates Templates for certificates of baptism, confirmation, Rites of Christian Initiation and Matimony are available on the Chancellor webpage, Pastoral Handbook under Sacraments and Liturgy: https://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor/sacraments-and-liturgy|
|A reminder that all incardinated priests should have a valid will on file at the Chancery Office. Other priests serving in the diocese should at least provide complete information on who we are to contact in the case of serious illness or death.
a) The will (or a copy of it) is to be in a sealed envelope with the name, address and phone number of the executor. Wills should be revised occasionally, especially if a beneficiary or the executor dies or if circumstances change.
b) A second envelope, which may be opened at the time of death, should be on file that contains the priest’s desires regarding funeral arrangements. Things to include would be the name of the homilist, specific music, particular vestments, the cemetery to be buried, etc. Click HERE for a fillable form.
c) Other legal documents, such as a living will, a designation of a durable power of attorney for health matters or a durable power of attorney for financial matters should also be on file at the Chancery Office.
d) One may also consider doing and writing out an inventory of personal items.
|In August the Presbyteral Council recommended, and Bishop John approved, an addition to the Help Out schedule (Honorarium).
When the parish priest is not available, the following addition to the Help Out schedule applies beginning September 1, 2018:
Go to the Chancellor page (https://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor) to obtain a revised 2018 Clergy Compensation document which has been revised to include this addition.

|2018 Dechant Foundation Golf Classic
The 4th annual Dechant Foundation golf tournament was a HUGE SUCCESS! Thank you to all the sponsors, players and volunteers who helped to make the day a success. We raised over $21,000.00 that will be used to help offset the cost of long-term care insurance for our retired Priests.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.(2 Corinthians 9:10)

Seven years in the making this documentary seeks to examine the effects of the free-love experiment of the hippie generation and the prophetic encyclical, Humanae Vitae. The centerpiece of the film is the dramatic life story of Alana Newman, a talented secular musician who gives up her entire musical career for life, family and love. Alana shares how through desperation to know her father, she finally discovers the treasures of "Theology of the Body", "Humanae Vitae", and the riches of true freedom through a dramatic conversion.
