November 2018 Monthly Notes

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
November 2018

From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City
Catholics throughout the US are asked to help those devastated by Hurricane Florence and any other natural disasters that might occur the rest of the year by donating to Catholic Charities USA:  https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/.  The Diocese is making a $7,000 contribution.  Bishop Brungardt asks parishes and individual parishioners to donate what they can.  Bishop asks that we hold all suffering from natural disasters and other tragedies in our prayers.  Needs beyond the US such as the recent tsunami in Indonesia can be addressed by donating to Catholic Relief Services: https://www.crs.org/ .
Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor

Official Catholic Directory Online Updating

On October 25, 2018, the contact person of the parish or school or organization (as was established in early 2018 when all editing was done online for the first time) should have received an email from The Official Catholic Directory instructing you how to go about making edits to your parish, school or organizational listing in the OCD.  If you did not receive this email, please let me know and I will forward you the email I received.  Note the deadline of November 30, 2018 to get the edits completed.

December 8, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

December 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation and this year it falls on a Saturday.  Holy Day Masses may be celebrated on Friday evening and on Saturday until 4 pm.  Any Mass after 4 pm is the anticipated Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent.

Guidelines for Providing Childcare during Church Activities has been revised.

Whenever a diocesan function or a parish function or group offers childcare, these guidelines offer information for best practices for the adults providing the childcare.

Guidelines for Providing Childcare (English) (attached)

Guidelines for Providing Childcare (Spanish) (attached)

Also, the document is available in English and Spanish on the Safe Environment webpage: https://www.dcdiocese.org/safe-environment

A reminder that all incardinated priests should have a valid will on file at the Chancery Office. Other priests serving in the diocese should at least provide complete information on who we are to contact in the case of serious illness or death.
a) The will (or a copy of it) is to be in a sealed envelope with the name, address and phone number of the executor. Wills should be revised occasionally, especially if a beneficiary or the executor dies or if circumstances change.
b) A second envelope, which may be opened at the time of death, should be on file that contains the priest’s desires regarding funeral arrangements. Things to include would be the name of the homilist, specific music, particular vestments, the cemetery to be buried, etc. Click HERE for a fillable form.
c) Other legal documents, such as a living will, a designation of a durable power of attorney for health matters or a durable power of attorney for financial matters should also be on file at the Chancery Office.
d) One may also consider doing and writing out an inventory of personal items.

Sacramental Records and Registers – I will offer a Sacramental Records and Registers workshop for anyone who has new parish office staff who will be given the responsibility to record sacraments or produce sacramental certificates.  Contact me and we can work out a mutually agreeable day and time.  Sister Janice, This email address is being protected from spambots.
