April 2019 Monthly Notes

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
April 2019

From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City
The Robert J. Dole VA Visually Impaired Services and Chaplaincy Departments did two pilot workshops in June 2017 for rural Veterans, their families and communities challenged with the duel cognitive disability of low vision and hearing loss, emphasis was on “living with the challenges”. Both were hosted in faith-based facilities, the “corner stones” of rural communities. Both workshops were successful.
We want to take this to the next level providing workshops on other topics impacting rural Kansans, topics such as substance abuse, diabetes, obesity, and again emphasis on “living with the challenges”. To accomplish this a network of individuals, organizations and churches willing to work together is needed.

Friday, May 3 at 1pm at the Hilton Garden Inn Ballroom, 410 S 3rd, Manhattan, KS, abortion survivor, Melissa Ohden, will be appearing during the Kansas State Knights of Columbus Convention, to tell her story of surviving a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977. Despite the initial concerns regarding Melissa's future after surviving the attempt to end her life at approximately seven months gestation, she has not only survived but thrived. Fulfilling the purpose that she believes God set out for her when He saved her from the certain death of the abortion attempt, Melissa is truly a voice for the voiceless. She is the Founder and Director of The Abortion Survivors Network and author of You Carried Me: A Daughter's Memoir. This truly inspirational presentation is free and open to the public.
