Prenuptial Documents – Just a reminder to please send prenup documents to me several weeks before the wedding instead of several days before the wedding, especially during the summer months when there will be more days I am out of the office.  Also, please review the front page and be sure all of the baptism information is written in before you submit.  If another priest or deacon is coming to your parish to receive the vows of a couple, remember to complete Section F on the back to delegate that priest or deacon.  If you are preparing a couple but the wedding will be celebrated elsewhere, remember to complete Section E giving permission for the couple to be married in another parish.  Also in this instance, the prenup documents are sent to me and I send them to the Chancery Office of the diocese where the wedding will take place.
Notifying the Church of Baptism – A reminder whenever the Sacrament of Confirmation or the marriage of a Catholic party is celebrated in your parish, you are responsible for sending notification to the church of baptism of the confirmation or marriage.  If your parish is the church baptism, not only is the sacrament recorded in your Confirmation or Marriage register, remember to go to the person’s baptism record to make the notation as well.

Testimonials of Suitability – A reminder for priests and deacons who may be going to another diocese to do any kind of ministerial function, contact me to send a testimonial of suitability before the event. Since funerals often occur with just a few days notice, we often can fax or email a testimonial in time. For more scheduled times out of the diocese, please let me know a few weeks ahead.

On the flip side, if your parish or a group or movement within your parish is inviting a priest, deacon or lay minister to come to your parish for a ministerial activity, a testimonial on their behalf needs to be sent ahead of their visit.

 THEO 4881  (1 hour course)

Celebrating Diversity … cultural & beyond

...Is not so much a class or a course as a gathering of people seeking a way. As we dialog, pray, share stories, face fears,
explore ice bergs, and learn the love, compassion, and charity that unify, we seek a way for the many
members of the Body of Christ to make God’s work on earth tangible and real. This “Gathering” views diversity through the Scriptural lens of unity of the human family, Body of Christ, catholicity of the mission and its Church. Christian communities can face challenges applying these truths. We may even need a changed heart in order to overcome obstacles. You are invited to gather over ITV and live and in-person to seek the way as members of Christ in whose Body and Blood we have communion.

Class Times: Sept. 18, 25, Oct. 30, Nov. 17

Nov. 17 class will gather at St. Andrew Parish, Wright KS from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

All sessions are bi-lingual - English & Spanish

Location - Interactive Television Sites throughout Dodge City and Salina Dioceses

1 hr. course for college credit - $50.00

1 hr. course for personal enrichment - $25.00

Fr. Robert Schremmer , Vicar General, is the coordinating instructor with Jaime Gil, Georgina Paz, Ana Gaytan and other guest presenters.

 Microfilming Sacramental Records
The summer sacramental records microfilming project is well underway. I am microfilming the records between 2014 and 2019 to update the security copy of sacramental records maintained in the diocesan archives. The microfilming of the records for the Dodge City Deanery is complete and those for Great Bend Deanery will be filmed during the first week of July. Pastors in the Garden City Deanery please take your sacramental records to the church offices of St. Dominic’s in Garden City by 3:30 p.m., Thursday, July 11. This will save the travel to the chancery office. I will need only the books that have Baptisms, Confirmations, Marriages and Deaths recorded since 2014. I will not need to microfilm First Communions records. To assist in the process, please place a post-it note on the page nearest Nov. 5, 2014 for each of the aforementioned sacraments. Those four post-it notes will show me where to begin filming this update. The sacramental books will be returned to St. Dominic’s church offices where they can be picked up on Thursday, July 18. The timing of this project was designed to have the sacramental books out of the parishes no longer than one week. For any questions or concerns, please call Tim Wenzl at 620-789-0043. Thank you!

STRANGERS IN TOWN, is an excellent must-see portrayal of Garden City! This short film "tells the story of how global migration unexpectedly transformed and enriched Garden City, Kansas. It brought great challenges to the community, including demands for housing, social services, education, and infrastucture. For the current students at Garden City High School, the town’s remarkable diversity is all they’ve ever known. STRANGERS IN TOWN gives new meaning to the city’s motto: “the world grows here,” and provides an inspiring view of human possibility in the face of change.” Watch it here:
