CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
March 2013 --- Vol. XI, No. 3
From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City:
PRESBYTERAL ASSEMBLY IN APRIL
My Dear Priests,
For some time now, I have been working with the Presbyteral Council and the Continuing Formation Council on having a Spring Presbyteral Assembly. I have decided to have an Assembly April 25-26 in Garden City. I ask that all active priests reserve these dates and make every effort to participate fully in the Assembly. Retired priests are most welcome to participate to the degree that they wish.
I feel that we have some very good times together: the October Convocation, the Pre-Lenten Day of Recollection, and our Annual Retreat, as well as, our monthly gatherings in Deaneries. But I felt that a piece was missing: a time we could gather to focus on our formation as a presbyterate and together address issues of common pastoral concern.
Father Rene Labrador has agreed to host us at the St. Dominic Parish Center. Father Rene has also made arrangements for a block of rooms to be reserved for us at the Holiday Inn Express. In consultation with the Councils, I have decided that the expense of the motel room may be reimbursed by your place of assignment. Details are included below.
The schedule is still in process. We will gather late morning of Thursday, April 25th and will conclude by early afternoon of Friday, April 26th. The agenda is also still in process. I continue to work with the Presbyteral Council and the Continuing Formation Council. As plans and details unfold, I will apprise you of them.
I look forward to what I envision to be day filled with grace that can only help but provide even more energy and vision to our shared pastoral ministry for the good of the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City.
Remember Jesus loves us more that we can ask or imagine!
+John B. Brungardt

► Priest celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation
No Faculty Needed: If the priest baptizes an adult (that is, all those who, no longer infants, have attained the use of reason – c. 852, §2) or receives a baptized Christian into the Catholic Church, the law provides the priest with the faculty to immediately confirm the new member.
Faculty Needed: If the adult was baptized Catholic, and now some years later is seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, then the priest needs to request from Bishop Brungardt the faculty to confirm.

From Fr. Wesley Schawe, Director of the Office of Priestly Vocations:
► Encounter with God’s Call
► College Connection 2013
The Vocations Office wants to help high school seniors and transfer students from the Diocese of Dodge City get connected with their new college home this Fall! No matter where they’re going (community college, Catholic college, state university), we want to give their new parish or Catholic Center a “heads up” so they can be invited to continue and enrich their Catholic life. Some of the greatest activity in the Catholic Church today is centered on college campuses!
But we can’t do it without help! We need to know where your graduating high school seniors (plus transfer students and community college graduates) plan to be next year.
How can you gather that information? Some suggestions:
• From a Senior PSR class.
• If you have a “graduation Mass” in May, have each graduate fill out the simple information as they gather for Mass.
• If one senior knows the class well, get the info. from him/her.
For a printable card to use at your senior PSR class or “graduation Mass” click here. Send completed cards to Vocations Office, PO Box 137, Dodge City, KS 67801
Electronic sign up is available at www.dcdiocese.org/vocations

• March 16-17
• April 27 (Saturday only)
• May 18-19
• May 25-26
• June 1-2
• June 8-9
• June 22-23 (depending on location)
Of course, there are weekends farther into the summer available as well.
From Steven Polley, Office of Youth Ministry and Religious Formation:
►Once again we set our sites on the month of March. Not only the heart of the Lenten Season, but like every year it contains two of our major youth events. March 17 – 18 is the dates for our next TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) weekend for juniors and seniors and Sunday, March 24, (Palm Sunday) is the date set for the junior high youth rally.
Please take the time to encourage your high school juniors and seniors to prayerfully consider attending the TEC in Garden City, as well as the middle school youth grades 6 – 8 to attend the rally. As we continue through this Year of Faith and beyond, both of these events will serve as powerful steps in the spiritual journey for each of these young men and women.
Thank you for all you continue to do.
