and the Diocesan Staff
April 2013 --- Vol. XI, No. 4
From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General & Moderator of Curia:
► Presbyteral Assembly – April 25-26, 2013 @ St. Dominic Parish, Garden City. The schedule is available here.
► Sing to the Lord! - Day of Formation for Liturgical Musicians, Liberal, KS.
Attached are the flyers for both the OCP retreat English track (here) on Friday evening, April 26 and the Spanish track (here) on Saturday, April 27. Please share them with your musicians.
From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:
► There are still a few parish religious education programs and a few Catholic schools who need to submit the Winter report form that acknowledges that safe environment lessons were presented to the students. Please submit this report as soon as possible.
Please keep in mind as parishes plan summer vacation bible school or mission trips that include minors that the adults need to be in compliance (a completed background check and attendance at a Protecting God’s Children awareness session) prior to the event/trip.
From Fr. Floyd McKinney, Chair, Presbyteral Council:
► Click here to view the Presbyteral Council Notes from March 19, 2013. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
From Eric Haselhorst, Director of Stewardship:
► The Region IX stewardship conference is Friday April 19th at Savior Pastoral Center in Kansas City KS. This is an excellent opportunity to learn wonderful skills to promote and live stewardship in a parish. At $90 per person it is a great value as well.
► John Allen Jr., Vatican reporter will be at the 2013 stewardship conference. John has many years of experience interviewing Vatican officials as well Popes. There has be no better time to attend the Stewardship conference than this year. Below is a video to whet your appetite.
From Fr. Wesley Schawe, Director of the Office of Priestly Vocations:
► A Rosary for Vocations
An exciting new way to pray for all vocations for the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City is coming soon. You will be able to pray the vocations rosary via your computer at www.dcdiocese.org in English or Spanish. The luminous mysteries for all vocations are led by Bishop John Brungardt, youth, a married couple, a religious sister, and priests in our diocese. The rosary can also be digitally downloaded to your portable device. A limited number of CDs will be available for each parish. If production goes as planned, the CDs will be distributed at the Spring Presbyteral Assembly in Garden City on April 25-26.
Pastors: Please give some thought to how many CDs you would like and specifically how you might distribute them. Some suggestions from the presbyteral council included: one for every homebound parishioner, one for each school family, each catechist, etc. We’ll make every attempt to accommodate your request. Please convey your thoughts to Becky Hessman or Fr. Wesley before or at the Assembly. The CD is not time-sensitive, and so could be distributed at the time you deem best.
► World Day of Prayer for Vocations is April 21. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The theme for this year's celebration is "Vocations as a sign of hope founded in faith." The theme underscores the hope that vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life bring to the entire Church. Click here to read this year’s message of the Holy Father.
► College Connection 2013
The Vocations Office wants to help high school seniors and transfer students from the Diocese of Dodge City get connected with their new college home this Fall! No matter where they’re going (community college, Catholic college, state university), we want to give their new parish or Catholic Center a “heads up” so they can be invited to continue and enrich their Catholic life. Some of the greatest activity in the Catholic Church today is centered on college campuses!
But we can’t do it without help! We need to know where your graduating high school seniors (plus transfer students and community college graduates) plan to be next year.
How can you gather that information? Some suggestions:
• From a Senior PSR class.
• If you have a “graduation Mass” in May, have each graduate fill out the simple information as they gather for Mass.
• If one senior knows the class well, get the info. from him/her.
For a printable card to use at your senior PSR class or “graduation Mass” click here. Send completed cards to Vocations Office, PO Box 137, Dodge City, KS 67801
