September 2019 Monthly Notes

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
September 2019

From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City
Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor
I will be out of the office Oct. 7-10 and 14-17. So, please be sure to send in any prenuptial documents several weeks before any weddings being celebrated Oct. 12 and 19.
Sacramental Register workshop – If you have any new folk working in the parish office whom you have given the task of recording sacramental records or creating sacramental certificates, let me know and we can set up a training session with them.
RCIA and Annulments – A reminder as sessions begin for RCIA to be sure to ask about any former marriages of the inquirer as well as their current spouse.  It may seem inhospitable to ask such questions so early on, but it is more inhospitable when a previous marriage of the candidate and/or their current spouse a week before Easter and they are then told they cannot receive the initiation sacraments.  Easter isn’t until April 12, 2020, so it is very possible for the Tribunal to get cases completed (barring any complications) well before Easter.
Priest Personnel Council Election Result – Father Ted Stoecklein was elected as the “at large” member to the Priest Personnel Council.  The other members are the three deans (Fr. Warren Stecklein – Garden City Deanery, Fr. Jim Dieker – Dodge City Deanery, and Fr. Don Bedore – Great Bend Deanery) and the vicar general (Fr. Bob Schremmer).

From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General

ORDER OF BAPTISM FOR CHILDREN -- IMPORTANT DATES
On November 14, 2017, the United States Bishops canonically approved the new translation of the Order of Baptism of Children. This included an Appendix which more clearly delineates the rite within Mass.

On April 11, 2019, the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments approved and confirmed the revised text of the Order of Baptism of Children, On June 10, 2019 (the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church), Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, President of the USCCB, issued a Decree of Publication. In it, Cardinal DiNardo indicates that this rite may be used in the Liturgy as of February 2, 2020, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Its use is mandatory as of Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. From that date forward, no other translation of the rite may be used in the dioceses of the United States. At this writing, five publishers have expressed an interest in printing the new text -- Liturgical Press, Catholic Book, Liturgy Training Publications, Magnificat, and USCCB.

 THEO 4881  (1 hour course)

Celebrating Diversity … cultural & beyond

...Is not so much a class or a course as a gathering of people seeking a way. As we dialog, pray, share stories, face fears,
explore ice bergs, and learn the love, compassion, and charity that unify, we seek a way for the many
members of the Body of Christ to make God’s work on earth tangible and real. This “Gathering” views diversity through the Scriptural lens of unity of the human family, Body of Christ, catholicity of the mission and its Church. Christian communities can face challenges applying these truths. We may even need a changed heart in order to overcome obstacles. You are invited to gather over ITV and live and in-person to seek the way as members of Christ in whose Body and Blood we have communion.

Class Times: Sept. 18, 25, Oct. 30, Nov. 17

Nov. 17 class will gather at St. Andrew Parish, Wright KS from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
All sessions are bi-lingual - English & Spanish
Location - Interactive Television Sites throughout Dodge City and Salina Dioceses
Cost:
1 hr. course for college credit - $50.00
1 hr. course for personal enrichment - $25.00
*price quotes do not include books

In addition to the backing of the Department of Justice, the new Legal Immigration Services Office will continue to assist with a wide variety of immigration paperwork needs and file and monitor every case through Edge software, an all-in-one comprehensive immigration case management solution that gives clients a web portal where they, too, can access all of their paperwork, and the current status of their case.
