June 2019 Monthly Notes
CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY
Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
|From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City|
| The obligatory memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church is now celebrated on the Monday following Pentecost. This year, that will fall on June 10. White vestments are worn. A full Mass formulary – including Collect, Prayer over the Offerings, Preface, Prayer after Communion, and Entrance and Communion Antiphons – is already included within the Roman Missal. Votive Masses nos. 10 -- Blessed Virgin Mary, Option B—Our Lady, Mother of the Church. A set of proper readings has been assigned for this new memorial. Since the precise verses and acclamation are not found together in any one place in the Lectionary for Mass, the USCCB Secretariat has prepared PDF resources of the readings in English and Spanish.

|Prenuptial Documents – Just a reminder to please send prenup documents to me several weeks before the wedding instead of several days before the wedding, especially during the summer months when there will be more days I am out of the office. Also, please review the front page and be sure all of the baptism information is written in before you submit. If another priest or deacon is coming to your parish to receive the vows of a couple, remember to complete Section F on the back to delegate that priest or deacon. If you are preparing a couple but the wedding will be celebrated elsewhere, remember to complete Section E giving permission for the couple to be married in another parish. Also in this instance, the prenup documents are sent to me and I send them to the Chancery Office of the diocese where the wedding will take place.|
|Notifying the Church of Baptism – A reminder whenever the Sacrament of Confirmation or the marriage of a Catholic party is celebrated in your parish, you are responsible for sending notification to the church of baptism of the confirmation or marriage. If your parish is the church baptism, not only is the sacrament recorded in your Confirmation or Marriage register, remember to go to the person’s baptism record to make the notation as well.|
Testimonials of Suitability – A reminder for priests and deacons who may be going to another diocese to do any kind of ministerial function, contact me to send a testimonial of suitability before the event. Since funerals often occur with just a few days notice, we often can fax or email a testimonial in time. For more scheduled times out of the diocese, please let me know a few weeks ahead.
On the flip side, if your parish or a group or movement within your parish is inviting a priest, deacon or lay minister to come to your parish for a ministerial activity, a testimonial on their behalf needs to be sent ahead of their visit.
