From Fr. Warren Stecklein, Priest's Retirement Fund

Diocesan Priest’s Retirement Fund Notice: The monthly benefit for retired priests will increase to $2,300 per month effective July 2018.

Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor

You will recall in February when Bishop John was dealing with his health issues, he granted pastors and parochial administrators the faculty to confirm baptized Catholics.  This faculty expires June 4, 2018.  After that date, you will again need to request the faculty to confirm a baptized Catholic (send request via email to Gayla Kirmer: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

A reminder to priests as you make vacation plans, if you are traveling outside the diocese and intend to celebrate Mass some place, I will need to send a testimonial of suitability to the appropriate diocese.  Please give me a few weeks “heads up” if I need to send one for you.  It is best if I can provide them with specific dates and places you will be present within the diocese.

Salary Increase - A reminder to priests and parish bookkeepers that Bishop John, at the Presbyteral Council’s recommendation, approved a $100 increase in priest salary beginning July 1, 2018.  That will make the salary $2,625 per month.

3 hr. course for personal enrichment - $75.00*

(price quotes do not include books)

*Pastoral Ministry Formation Certificate in Youth Ministry seeks to help those who minister to youth specifically and those who minister indirectly understand the components necessary to develop a comprehensive ministry to meet the spiritual, catechetical and social needs of our youth.

Following the Parkland tragedy, teenagers caught the attentions of the nation.  What if they caught the attention of the Church?  It is said that teenagers are the most underutilized, underestimated and under challenged people in the Church.

The certificate forms adults in missionary discipleship to engage the gift of our teenagers in our Church.

The certificate unpacks the U.S. Bishop’s document:  “Renewing the Vision:  A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry”, and Pastoral Juvenil Hispana.

Salina Diocesan Administrator Fr. Frank Coady and Dodge City Bishop John Brungardt encourage every parish to have one or more parishioners prepared with a Youth Ministry Certificate so that they may support and encourage our youth in their unfolding discipleship.

THEO 4881 Art and Environment (1 hour college course)

Instructor:  Fr. Frank Coady

A liturgical environment that celebrates the awe of God’s presence and saving deeds cannot be satisfied with anything less than beautiful. The beauty is related to the holy.

This course gives all involved with Liturgy knowledge of the sacraments, the Catholic rites, the Liturgical Year, and the faithful’s devotional life in order to equip them to create a sacred environment in which the divine-human encounter can most readily occur. The goal is to care for all the elements of worship, ensuring that the total environment is clean, appropriate, authentic, beautiful and accessible. The course will present the Liturgical Documents as they pertain to sacraments and other rites, environment, liturgical space, church appointments and the sacristy.

*This course is one of the one hour courses needed to obtain the Diocesan Certification in Liturgical Ministry.

Class Times: Sept. 5, 12, 19, Oct. 10   Wednesday evenings - 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Location: Interactive Television Sites throughout Dodge City and Salina Dioceses

Cost: 1 hr. course for college credit - $50.00*

1 hr. course for personal enrichment - $25.00*

(price quotes do not include books)

*Formation in Liturgy welcomes all involved in liturgical ministry.  Those serving the liturgy of the Church need to have an understanding of the liturgy, an appreciation of particular ministries and their relationship to other ministries. Salina Diocesan Administrator Fr. Frank Coady and Dodge City Bishop John Brungardt encourage every parish to have one or more parishioners prepared with a Liturgy Certificate so they serve the parish as a resource for the source and summit of the life of the parish, the Liturgy.
