Msgr. Brian Moore retires to Wichita,
but you can still ‘Ask a Theologian’
Although Msgr. Brian Moore, Director of Formation for the Diocese of Dodge City, has retired to Wichita, he will continue to serve as theologian for the Diocese of Dodge City.
“I remain a priest of this diocese,” he said at a recent cathedral luncheon held in his honor. “I continue to intercede for the bishop and the priests and the people of this diocese, and I will go on doing that and making myself available in whatever way that I can.”
He offered his appreciation to all those with whom he has worked and served: “It has been an overflowing sense of gladness to be with all of you, to receive your support, and I hope to support you as well. ... I assure you of my prayers and ask for your continued support and prayers as well....”
Each Lent, Msgr. Moore has offered the SKR feature, “Ask a Theologian,” in which he answers questions submitted by readers.
Then-Professor Moore began serving in the Diocese of Dodge City in 1976 when he was an instructor at St. Mary of the Plains College from 1976-1980. His first assignment as a priest was as assistant pastor at St. Rose and St. Patrick Parishes in Great Bend from 1983-1987.
He then left Kansas to join the staff of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and then returned to southwest Kansas 15 years later, in 2003. He has guided several seminarians in his years in southwest Kansas, and leaves the diocese with six seminarians in formation.
“...We hope that we have had some semblance of skill in using your services, so rich and so varied as they are,” Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore said at the luncheon gathering. “We hope that we have had the wisdom to use your skills in a way that was fulfilling to you. And we do have the skill clearly, and have done this many times, rejoiced in your evidently fruitful love for this small church.”
