Kinsley, Offerle parishes to host parish mission starting Oct. 13

St. Nicholas Parish in Kinsley and the neighboring parish of St. Joseph in Offerle will play host to a parish mission from 7-8:15 p.m. for four consecutive nights, beginning Sunday Oct. 13, and concluding Wednesday Oct. 16.
Anyone, from any part of the diocese, is invited and encouraged to attend one or more of the sessions. There is no charge. The theme for the mission is “Conversion.” The schedule for the mission is as follows:
Sunday: “God’s Plan of Salvation and Our Response”
Monday: “Who is Jesus for Us?”
Tuesday: “Sin, Reconciliation and Healing”
Wednesday: Celebration of Mass -- “Our Mission to Share in the Work of Jesus and the Church.”
On Oct. 13-14, the English sessions will be presented at St. Joseph Church in Offerle, while Spanish sessions will be at St. Nicholas. On Oct. 15, The English session will be at St. Nicholas, while the Spanish session will be at St. Nicholas Parish Hall (the former school). On the final night, Oct. 16, Mass will be celebrated in English in St. Nicholas Church, and in Spanish at the St. Nicholas Parish Hall. The two groups will join for the celebration of the Eucharist.
Presenting the mission will be someone familiar to many people in the Diocese of Dodge City, Redemptorist Father Tony Judge, as well as Redemptorist Father Greg Schmidt. Father Tony served in the diocese for several years as a member of the Redemptorist Hispanic Missionary Team, headquartered in Liberal, which sought to train and provide ongoing Catholic leadership.
Each night’s sessions will conclude with a social gathering. Light refreshments will be served.
“This will help us renew our faith and our Catholic commitment,” said Father John Strasser, pastor of St. Nicholas and St. Joseph parishes. “It’s been a while since our parish had one. I’m excited because the people asked for this. That’s nice.”
Father Strasser said that a few non-Catholics have expressed interest in attending one or more of the sessions.
There is no cost for the event, although the presenters will make an appeal at the event’s conclusion which will go toward supporting the next mission they present.
Father Strasser wished to thank the planning committee for their commitment and hard work in preparing for the mission.
“Everybody they asked has offered to help. Once they asked, people came forward. Nobody shied away. They’re really pleased with the response they’ve gotten. That’s a good sign.”
