What the world and our Catholic Church need today is not people who go to church once a week on Sundays and consider themselves “squared-up” with God.

Sherry Weddell has spent the last 10 years researching just how people live their Christian faith. She has discovered what many people find lacking both in themselves and in the institutional Church, and she has suggested ways for improving the situation. Weddell believes the Church and society need what she calls “intentional disciples.” (Weddell, Forming Intentional Disciples, Huntington, IN: Our Sunday Visitor, 2012

What are those?

Followers of Jesus Christ who are making every effort to live their daily lives the way the Lord’s first followers did. Are you a “cultural” Catholic? Want to become a dynamic one? Consider this teaching from the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “From the beginning, Jesus associated his disciples with his own life, revealed the mystery of the Kingdom to them, and gave them a share in his mission, joy and sufferings” (no. 787).

The scope of Christ’s mission is apparent on every page of the Gospels. He makes us sharers in that mission through the Church. We have been chosen by Him to become like Him and to lead others to Him.

In St. John’s Gospel Jesus says: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

Perhaps you’re a lifelong Catholic. You might even be involved in various ministries and apostolates in your parish and community. Good! Thank you. And you maybe even feel at times that there’s not one more parish committee or assignment you can take on without it becoming a burden. Already you are a positive influence and an instrument in building up the Kingdom of God.

The Catholic Diocese of Dodge City has introduced a new pastoral plan for the spread of the Gospel here. You can learn more about each one by clicking the associated "tile" on our home page. When you’re ready, seek out your pastor to help you take the next step. We will be praying for you.

Dear Lord Jesus: Thank you for giving me abundant life through the sacraments, most especially through Your Body and Blood in the Eucharist. I want to be a more effective channel of the graces you give me. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, help me to see how I am being called to take my faith to the next level. Amen.
