Camp Cristo Rey!

Camp Cristo Rey is a camp for middle schoolers (5th-8th grade) in the Diocese of Dodge City to discover more deeply the call of  faith, and how to live it out. Our patron, St. José Sánchez del Río, boldly and bravely defended our common Catholic faith. We will learn how to do the same thing in our day, in our communities, and in our unique situations.

Camp Cristo Rey will be offered in 2 different capacities this year. First, there will be one overnight camp (4 days, 3 nights.) Then a 1-day  option with a condensed schedule.

St. José Sánchez del Río, pray for us!

About Our Patron
St. José Sánchez del Río was born in Sahuayo, Michoacán, México. José loved his faith and grew up with a strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. When he was 12 years old, the Mexican government attempted to eliminate the Catholic Church in Mexico by seizing property, closing religious schools and convents, and executing Catholic priests. Even though José was too young to fight back, he begged his mother "Mama, do not let me lose the opportunity to gain Heaven so easily and so soon.”  He was eventually allowed to join the effort as a flag bearer. José was captured and told to reject his Catholic faith, but he wouldn't. He was forced to walk through town while being tortured. All the while, he would recite the rosary, pray for his enemies, sing songs of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and proclaim "I will never give in. Vivo Cristo Rey y Santa Maria de Guadalupe!"

José died as a martyr at age 14.  He was canonized a Saint on October 16th, 2016 and his memorial is on February 10th (the anniversary date of his martyrdom.) He is the patron of persecuted Christians and children.
