The last issue of the Southwest Kansas Catholic went to press prior to the news of the immigration enforcement agents presence in Southwest Kansas, and the activities that followed. In response, a Holy Hour for Peace was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City, Sept. 25. Following is Bishop John B. Brungardt’s Prayer for Dignity and Compassion, which he prayed in English and Spanish at one of the activities.

We begin as we were baptized:

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

We learn from Sacred Scripture, from St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians:

“For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26).

Loving God, we are your children, each your wondrous sons and daughters. Help us to see all people as our brothers and sisters, each worthy of great dignity and respect. Assist us to reach out in peace and compassion to all. We pray for all our immigrants, for our civil and religious leaders, for law enforcement, and for all those in most need. Jesus Christ, our Savior, Brother, and Friend, be with us as we struggle in this earthly life, that we may join you some day in eternity.

From the prophet Isaiah: “Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

Let us ask Our Mother Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, for her prayers:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Lord be with you … and with your spirit:

May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Go in peace. Thanks be to God.
